What is Osteomyelitis?
Osteomyelitis is a severe bacterial infection of the bone. In chronic cases, the infection cuts off blood supply to parts of the bone, creating dead bone segments (sequestra). These segments act as reservoirs for bacteria, making antibiotic treatment alone ineffective.
Who Needs Treatment?
Adults and children suffering from chronic osteomyelitis, often developing after high-energy fractures, open surgeries with metal implants, or previous failed infection surgeries.

Treatment Options
Treatment requires a thorough two-stage approach: 1. Geographic PET-CT guided Debridement: Precise mapping of active bone infection using molecular imaging to guide the thorough excision of devitalized bone segments while preserving healthy tissue, combined with temporary local antibiotic spacer placement. 2. Reconstruction: Once the infection is cleared, the bone defect is reconstructed using bone transport (distraction osteogenesis), Shortening then Lengthening or Induced Membrane Technique.
Technology & Specialized Equipment
18F-FDG PET-CT molecular planning, local antibiotic delivery systems (cement beads/spacers), and external fixator frames for skeletal stability.
Recovery & Post-Operative Care
Reconstruction takes place after clinical and laboratory confirmation (normal CRP/ESR) that the infection has cleared. Rehabilitation focuses on preserving adjacent joint motion while the bone is stabilized.
