Leadership & International Collaboration

Prof. Ahmed Elsheikh coordinates regional and global networks to advance orthopaedic training, research, and specialized clinical protocols.

SICOTMEPOSEBJICLRS-PD
Academic Leadership

Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Benha University, Egypt

Prof. Ahmed Elsheikh serves as Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, Benha University, where he trains the next generation of orthopedic surgeons while leading tertiary-referral care for complex trauma, non-union, and limb deformity cases. His academic role combines active teaching, postgraduate supervision, and clinical leadership within one of Egypt's key university hospital orthopedic departments.

Clinical Expertise

Consultant Limb Reconstruction Surgeon

As a Consultant Limb Reconstruction Surgeon, he manages the most complex referral cases in his region, including chronic non-union, malunion, limb length discrepancy, congenital and post-traumatic deformity, and bone infection. This consultant-level practice is built on fellowship training in the UK, Italy, and Switzerland, giving him a broad international perspective on limb salvage and reconstruction techniques.

International Committee

Member of the Infection Committee (SICOT)

SICOT (Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie) maintains a dedicated Infections Committee that brings together international representatives to address the global burden of musculoskeletal infection, working closely with allied societies such as EBJIS. As a committee member, Prof. Elsheikh contributes to shaping international strategy, education, and best-practice guidance on orthopedic and trauma-related infections, an area that has become one of his primary clinical and research interests.

Regional Collaboration

Member of the Research Committee (MEPOS)

The Middle East Pediatric Orthopaedic Society (MEPOS) coordinates a scientific and organizing committee drawing members from across the Gulf, Egypt, and the wider region to advance pediatric orthopedic care and research. Prof. Elsheikh's role on the MEPOS Research Committee reflects his commitment to regional collaboration in pediatric deformity and limb reconstruction research, connecting Egyptian clinical experience with broader Middle Eastern academic networks.

Global Research Steering

Member of SICOT Global Research Network Steering Committee

SICOT actively develops global research infrastructure through subspecialty and network committees that plan international studies and congress research programming. Serving on the steering committee of the SICOT Global Research Network positions Prof. Elsheikh among a select international group directing multi-center orthopedic research initiatives, helping set priorities for studies that span multiple countries and health systems.

Scientific Board

Member of the Scientific Board of LRS Professional Diploma (LRS-PD Egypt)

The Professional Diploma in Limb Reconstructive Surgery and Correction of Deformity (LRS-PD) is a one-year, hands-on clinical and operative training program organized by the Pan Arab Orthopaedic Association with scientific support from SICOT, structured in four parts across accredited hospitals and reinforced by biannual intensive workshops. As a member of its Scientific Board, Prof. Elsheikh helps shape the curriculum and hands-on training standards for the next generation of Arab limb reconstruction surgeons, directly extending his RNOH, Liverpool, and Humanitas fellowship training into regional education.

Educational Founder

Director and Convenor, EBJIC (Egyptian Bone & Joint Infection Course)

Prof. Elsheikh conceived and co-founded EBJIC, the Egyptian Bone & Joint Infection Course, first delivered over three days in Cairo (17–19 December) with international faculty spanning orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, radiology, microbiology, infectious disease, infection control, and clinical pharmacy. The inaugural course covered Fracture-Related Infection (FRI), pediatric bone and joint infection, infected Charcot ankle, and prosthetic joint infection (PJI), and drew close to a hundred participants along with international guest faculty including Prof. Javad Parvizi. As director and convenor, he built EBJIC into what he describes as 'a major leap' in structured, multidisciplinary infection education for the region — reflecting years of planning since the course was first conceived in June 2025.
