Clinical duties
Prof. Ahmed Elsheikh serves as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon, undertaking on-call duties, ward rounds, and theatre sessions on a regular basis. As part of a tertiary referral center, he manages complex and high-acuity cases including non-union, malunion, limb length discrepancy, osteomyelitis, and post-traumatic deformities affecting both the upper and lower limbs. His clinical practice extends to complex trauma reconstruction, often requiring multidisciplinary coordination with orthoplastic, infection, and rehabilitation teams. Through this tertiary referral role, he provides specialized surgical care and decision-making for patients referred from across the region who require advanced limb reconstruction expertise.
Educational duties
Prof. Ahmed Elsheikh is actively engaged in undergraduate teaching, delivering core components of the Trauma and Orthopaedics (T&O) curriculum to medical students. At the postgraduate level, he supervises and mentors trainees, as well as Master's and MD candidates, guiding them through both clinical skill development and academic progression. His teaching responsibilities emphasize practical exposure to limb reconstruction, deformity correction, and infection management, ensuring trainees gain hands-on experience alongside theoretical knowledge. Through structured teaching sessions and bedside mentorship, he contributes to building the next generation of orthopedic surgeons within Benha University and its affiliated training programs.
Research duties
Prof. Ahmed Elsheikh maintains an active research portfolio alongside his clinical and academic duties, with a particular focus on limb reconstruction, deformity correction, and bone and joint infection. He collaborates in international multicentric studies, working alongside colleagues across the UK, Europe, and the Middle East to generate higher-quality evidence on complex orthopedic conditions and to align regional practice with international standards. Within Benha University, he also supervises Master's and PhD theses, mentoring the next generation of orthopedic researchers and helping translate clinical experience in limb reconstruction and infection management into structured academic research.
